Sea bream and sea bass hatchery created at the CNRDPA in Algeria
The project involved supplying, installing, commissioning and servicing the equipment and materials needed to create a hatchery for the pilot production of sea bream (Sparus aurata) and sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax). The plant was built at the Bou Ismaïl marine fish research station (Tipasa province), which belongs to the National Centre for Research and Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CNRDPA by its acronym in French) in Algeria.
The works developed by everis Ingeniería also included reconditioning and providing vehicles and equipment to transport live fish and control water quality. Setif and Sidi Bel Abbès continental aquaculture experimental stations’ equipment was also improved.
The project was conducted within the framework of the European DIVECO 2 programme, aimed at diversifying the economy by promoting productive investments and technical support to improve performance in aquaculture and fisheries sectors. With this project, awarded to everis Ingeniería for €420,000 via an international tender process, the European Union and the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries wanted to help improve the capacities of the country’s main aquaculture and fisheries research centre.
The DIVECO 2 programme has been key to promoting policies that support aquaculture, which are included in Algeria’s national plan for aquaculture and fisheries: 2020 Aquapêche Plan.
